Running Yogini

The tragedy that has been experienced lately with the Colorado wildfires affects many aspects of a community. Our prayers go to those who have lost homes, memories, and loved ones; and our heart felt thank you goes to the firefighters, emergency personnel and tactical managers that have spent sleepless nights and shed tears during this stressful time. While many of us give what we can to help those in need, there are other activities that bring a community together and can remind us of all we do for each other.

I was contacted by a couple of race directors recently to help spread the word for their events taking place in the Colorado Springs area, the location of the Waldo Canyon Fire. Both have been generous in awarding free entries to help bring awareness to their event. So I am more than happy to help them help their community as they continue to bring hope and health to their cause.

Today is the start of the free entry giveaway for the Classic 10K Race & Circle of Hope Run. This event is part of the of the Colorado Springs Grand Prix of Running and is taking place on July 21, 2012 at 7am at the Tiffany Square at Woodmen Rd (click for more course description). The Grand Prix Classic 10K is partnering with Memorial Health System Foundation’s “Run for Hope” to combine resources and absorb the race event cost for the foundation. This prevalent feeling of sharing is what makes me so happy to be a part of the running community.

Circle of Hope Fund provides financial assistance to nearly 100 cancer patients in need of emergency financial assistance while receiving medical treatment. They support through paying utility bills, buying food, and providing housing assistance. All money goes directly to the patients since it is not a heavily administrated foundation with salaried employees.

There is also a kids run with 2 courses, 1/2 mile and 1 mile, which I love because there is no better way to model fitness and health to our children that to have them see you participating in such an activity. And there are CASH PRIZES! It looks to be a great race partnered for a great cause.
